Common questions
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Plus annual is managed by Apple, not by us.
- Open the iPhone Settings app and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions, then Cyster Plate.
- Tap Cancel Subscription. Do this at least 24 hours before the end of the current period so it does not renew.
You can also reach this from the app: Settings, Plus, "Manage subscription". You keep Plus until the end of the period you paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
How do I restore my purchase on a new phone?
Open Cyster Plate, go to Settings, Plus, and tap Restore Purchases. You can also tap Restore Purchases at the bottom of the paywall. Use the same Apple ID you bought with. Restore works for both the annual and the lifetime option.
How do I delete my data?
- In the app, go to Settings, then Delete my data.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
This erases the journal on your phone and deletes your account on our server right away. Server backups roll off within 7 days. It does not cancel an Apple subscription, so cancel that first if you want to stop renewal (see above). If you cannot open the app, email privacy@cyster.cobena.dev; because accounts are anonymous, we may ask you to open the app so we can identify the account.
How do I export my data?
Settings, Export data. The app builds one zip file on your phone with a JSON file and CSV spreadsheets of your logs, check-ins, periods, water and weight (if you turned it on), and you choose where to save or share it. Nothing is uploaded to make it.
What counts toward my free AI estimates?
Each photo or text estimate counts as one. The free plan gets 4 a week and Plus gets 50 a week. The week resets every Monday at midnight New York time, the same moment for everyone. Barcode scans, label scans, search, manual entry and check-ins never count. If an estimate fails, times out or finds no food, it does not count. "More ideas" is part of Plus; the quick tip after each log is always free.
An estimate looks wrong. What should I do?
Estimates can be off, which is why every number is editable before you save. For packaged food, scan the barcode or the nutrition label instead; you get the label's own numbers. If something is consistently wrong, email us the food and what you expected, without photos of yourself.
Which Apple Health data does the app use?
It reads your daily step count to show next to your meals and check-ins. If you turn on the options, it can also save the water you log and the periods you log to Apple Health, and import menstrual flow you recorded there. Each is a separate switch in Settings, Apple Health. Health data stays on your phone. You can use the app fully without Apple Health.
Does the app work offline?
Yes for logging everyday foods by search, label scan, manual entry, check-ins, periods, water and recipes. Photo and text estimates and barcode lookups need a connection. If you are offline, your photo is kept and estimated when you are back online.
Is Cyster Plate for children?
It is for people aged 13 and over.
Can't afford Plus?
If cost is a barrier, you can ask for free Plus.
- Open the paywall (Settings, Plus) and tap "Can't afford Plus?".
- Add an email if you would like a reply, and a note if you want to. Both are optional.
- Tap Send request.
If accepted, your account gets 12 months of Plus at no charge. There is one request per phone and no proof is needed. It is applied automatically, usually within moments. If many requests arrive on the same day, yours may be queued and applied as soon as it is processed. The email you give, if any, is used only to reply and is deleted with your account.
